To add a remote MCP server to GitHub Copilot in VS Code, run **MCP: Add Server** from the Command Palette, choose **HTTP (HTTP or Server-Sent Events)**, and enter the server's endpoint URL. For Wireflow, the endpoint is `https://www.wireflow.ai/api/mcp`, and you sign in with your Wireflow account instead of adding an API key. Copilot can then call Wireflow's tools in an agent session to run image, video and audio models on your Wireflow credits.

For Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT and other agents, start from [How do I connect my AI agent to image and video generation tools?](/docs/use-wireflow-from-your-agent)

## Where does the MCP config go in VS Code?

The MCP config goes in the file you pick in **MCP: Add Server**: the Copilot global file, `~/.copilot/mcp-config.json`, for your own use across workspaces, or one of the older `mcp.json` files, which still work but are labeled deprecated in the guided flow. When `COPILOT_HOME` is set, the global file is `$COPILOT_HOME/mcp-config.json` instead.

| File | Where it applies |
| --- | --- |
| `~/.copilot/mcp-config.json` | Copilot, across your workspaces |
| `.vscode/mcp.json` in a workspace | That workspace. Labeled deprecated in the guided flow, still available for compatibility |
| `mcp.json` in your user profile, opened with **MCP: Open User Configuration** | Your user profile. Labeled deprecated in the guided flow, still available for compatibility |

## How do I add the Wireflow server URL?

Run **MCP: Add Server**, choose **HTTP (HTTP or Server-Sent Events)**, and enter `https://www.wireflow.ai/api/mcp` as the endpoint. If you edit a `.vscode/mcp.json` file yourself, add Wireflow under the top-level `servers` object:

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "wireflow": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://www.wireflow.ai/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

`type` takes `http` or `sse`, and Wireflow's server is a Streamable HTTP endpoint, so use `http`. Leave out `headers`, because Wireflow uses no API key. Wireflow's MCP connector page says clients self-register with no pre-shared credentials, so there is no `oauth` client ID to add. Portable MCP files from other tools use a top-level `mcpServers` object, while the VS Code format uses `servers`.

## How do I sign in and start the server?

Run **MCP: List Servers**, choose `wireflow`, then **Start Server**, and confirm that you trust the server when VS Code asks. Complete the authorization flow when VS Code prompts you. Wireflow's [MCP connector page](/docs/mcp) says the client walks you through Wireflow's OAuth sign-in and a consent screen: sign in with your Wireflow account and approve the consent screen, which lists exactly the permissions the client asked for.

Signing in is separate from trusting the server and from approving single tool calls, so VS Code can still ask you to approve Wireflow tools in chat. A server saved outside the workspace, such as in the Copilot global file, can use a separate trust decision and might prompt you on its first start. You can revoke Wireflow's access at any time from your Wireflow settings.

## How do I ask Copilot in agent mode to use the Wireflow tools?

In an agent session in Copilot Chat, name Wireflow in your prompt and start with a low-impact action, as VS Code's MCP guide suggests, then ask for the image. This prompt checks the account first and waits for your yes before it spends credits:

```text
Use Wireflow. First tell me which Wireflow account you are connected as. Then make a flat illustration of a paper airplane flying over a city skyline with Flux 2. Tell me the credit cost and wait for my yes before you run it.
```

Copilot should call `whoami` first, then look up the model and its price with `list_models`. Approve tool calls as VS Code asks them: the tools that start runs, such as `run_workflow`, spend credits.

To check or turn off the Wireflow tools Copilot can use, open **Chat: Open Customizations > Tools**, or click the tools icon in Copilot Chat. For what Copilot can do with images more broadly, see [GitHub Copilot image generation](https://www.wireflow.ai/blog/github-copilot-image-generation).

## Why won't my MCP server start or connect in VS Code?

Read the server's output first: run **MCP: List Servers**, choose `wireflow`, then **Show Output** to open that server's output channel. Then match what you see:

| What you see | What to check |
| --- | --- |
| The server doesn't appear or can't start | Check that the entry is in one of the files above, and that the `chat.mcp.access` setting, which manages which MCP servers can be used in VS Code, allows it |
| Sign-in or the connection fails | Check that the endpoint is exactly `https://www.wireflow.ai/api/mcp` and check your network, then finish the Wireflow sign-in and approve the consent screen |
| The server runs, but Copilot never calls a Wireflow tool | Check that the server is enabled and that its tools are on under **Chat: Open Customizations > Tools**. Name Wireflow in your prompt |
| Your organization blocks MCP servers | On Copilot Business and Copilot Enterprise, the **MCP servers in Copilot** policy must be enabled, and it is disabled by default. Local configuration can't override organizational restrictions, so ask your admin |

After a fix, use **Restart Server** in **MCP: List Servers**. The policy doesn't govern Copilot Free, Copilot Pro, Copilot Pro+ or Copilot Max.
