Connect Your Own App

Connect Instagram, Facebook Pages, Threads and TikTok to Wireflow through your own Meta or TikTok developer app.

Wireflow posts through its own Meta and TikTok apps. You can also connect through your own developer app instead. Your app can post to your own accounts right away, with no App Review, because Meta and TikTok let an app post for the people who have a role on it.

This is handy in two cases:

  • A platform has not finished reviewing Wireflow's app yet, so the normal Connect button is not open for you.
  • You want a backup that keeps working no matter what happens to Wireflow's app.

You only do this once per platform. After that, connecting works like normal.

How it works in Wireflow

  1. Open a Social Publish node (or Settings, Connected Accounts).
  2. Click Use your own app (advanced) and pick the platform.
  3. Copy the Redirect URI shown there. You paste it into your developer app in the steps below.
  4. Paste your app's ID and secret into Wireflow and click Save app.
  5. Click Connect and approve, like any other connection.

Your app secret is stored encrypted. Wireflow never shows it again, only its last 4 characters. You can replace or remove the app at any time. Removing it means accounts connected through it need a reconnect.

If you are an owner or admin of a team, you can save the app for everyone on the team. Team members (not viewers) can then connect through it.

Instagram

You need an Instagram Business or Creator account.

  1. Go to developers.facebook.com/apps and click Create App.
  2. Pick the use case Other, then the app type Business. Give it a name and click through to create it.
  3. On the app dashboard, find Instagram and click Set up. This adds API setup with Instagram login.
  4. On that page, copy the Instagram app ID and Instagram app secret. These are not the same as the app ID at the top of the dashboard. Use the Instagram ones.
  5. Add your Instagram account as a tester. Go to App roles, then Roles, click Add People, and choose Instagram Tester. Type your Instagram username.
  6. Accept the invite. In Instagram, open Settings, then Website permissions, then Apps and websites, then Tester invites, and accept it.
  7. Back on API setup with Instagram login, open Set up Instagram business login (or Business login settings). Paste the Redirect URI from Wireflow into OAuth redirect URIs and click Save.
  8. In Wireflow, paste the Instagram app ID and secret, click Save app, then Connect Instagram.

Leave the app in Development mode. That is what lets it post for your tester accounts without App Review.

Facebook

This connects the Facebook Pages you manage, one account per Page.

  1. Go to developers.facebook.com/apps and click Create App.
  2. Pick the use case Manage everything on your Page and create the app.
  3. Open App settings, then Basic. Copy the App ID and App secret.
  4. Open Facebook Login for Business, then Settings. Paste the Redirect URI from Wireflow into Valid OAuth Redirect URIs and click Save changes.
  5. You are the app's admin, so your own Pages work right away. To connect a Page someone else manages, add them under App roles, then Roles.
  6. In Wireflow, paste the App ID and App secret, click Save app, then Connect Facebook. Pick your Pages when Facebook asks.

Threads

  1. Go to developers.facebook.com/apps and click Create App.
  2. Pick the use case Access the Threads API and create the app.
  3. Open the Threads use case settings. Copy the Threads app ID and Threads app secret. Use these, not the app ID at the top of the dashboard.
  4. In the same settings, paste the Redirect URI from Wireflow into Redirect Callback URLs and save.
  5. Add your Threads account as a tester. Go to App roles, then Roles, click Add People, and choose Threads Tester.
  6. Accept the invite. In Threads, open Settings, then Account, then Website permissions, and accept it.
  7. In Wireflow, paste the Threads app ID and secret, click Save app, then Connect Threads.

TikTok

Read this first: until TikTok audits your app, every post goes up as private (only you can see it), your TikTok account has to be private when you post, and only a few accounts can post through the app each day. You can make a post public later in the TikTok app. This is a TikTok rule for every unaudited app, Wireflow's included.

  1. Go to developers.tiktok.com, log in, and open Manage apps. Click Connect an app.
  2. Fill in the app details (name, icon, category). For a personal app, choose to own it as an individual.
  3. Click Add products and add Login Kit and Content Posting API.
  4. Under Content Posting API, turn on Direct Post.
  5. Under Scopes, make sure user.info.basic, video.upload and video.publish are on.
  6. Under Login Kit, paste the Redirect URI from Wireflow into the Web redirect URI box.
  7. To start without waiting for TikTok, switch the toggle next to your app's name to Sandbox and click Create Sandbox. Repeat steps 3 to 6 in the sandbox. Then open Sandbox settings, find Target users, click Add account, and log in with your TikTok account. You can add up to 10 accounts.
  8. Copy the Client key and Client secret shown at the top of the app page. If you use a sandbox, copy the pair shown while the sandbox is selected.
  9. In Wireflow, paste the Client key and Client secret, click Save app, then Connect TikTok.

Wireflow treats your app as not audited until you say otherwise, so every post goes up private. When TikTok approves your app in an audit, click Replace on your saved TikTok app, tick TikTok has audited this app, and save. Posts can then be public. Leave the box off until TikTok has actually approved your app: an unaudited app that tries to post publicly is refused by TikTok.

If something goes wrong

  • "redirect_uri" error on the platform's page: the Redirect URI in your app does not match. Copy it again from Wireflow and paste it exactly, with nothing added at the end.
  • "Invalid app" or the consent screen will not load: check you pasted the right pair. Instagram and Threads each have their own ID and secret, separate from the app's main ID.
  • The account is not offered on the consent screen: add it as a tester (Meta) or target user (TikTok sandbox) and accept the invite first.
  • "Your own app was changed or removed while connecting": someone replaced or removed the app while you were on the consent screen. Connect again.
