Remotion pricing has two halves: a license that is free for teams of up to 3 people and then costs $0.01 per render or $25 per seat a month, and your AWS rendering bill. This guide adds the license, Lambda render cost, S3 storage and data transfer into one monthly number, using Remotion's own cost examples and AWS's us-east-1 rates on 21 October 2026. We build Wireflow, a node-based AI canvas with its own video editor, so check Remotion's pages before you buy.

Remotion pricing at a glance

Remotion is a framework for making videos with React code. Whether you pay depends on the size of your organization. On 21 October 2026 its license page listed these tiers, billed monthly in US dollars.

TierWho it's forPrice
Free LicenseIndividuals, non-profits and companies of up to 3 people$0, commercial use included
Remotion for AutomatorsCompanies of 4+ that render from code: video editors, prompt-to-video apps, batch jobs$0.01 per render, $100 a month minimum
Remotion for CreatorsCompanies of 4+ whose staff write Remotion videos by hand or with coding agents$25 a month per seat
EnterpriseCompanies that want custom terms, a private support channel and Editor StarterFrom $500 a month

Automators and Creators are the two halves of the Company License, and you can switch on both; Remotion's FAQ says "a combined minimum spend of $100 per month applies." The Company License also includes prioritized support and $250 in Mux credits for new Mux customers, and there are no refunds. Render services that bill by the minute work differently, as Shotstack pricing shows.

What counts as a render

Remotion's license FAQ defines one render as "the successful generation of a video, audio, GIF, still image or PDF." That wording shapes the bill:

  • Stills count. A thumbnail rendered with Remotion is one render, the same as a 10-minute video.
  • Previews don't. Playing a composition in Remotion Studio or the Remotion Player is free.
  • Only Automators pay per render. Free License and Creators users don't.
  • Overages are prorated. Extra renders or seats go on your next invoice, and you have 30 days to adjust your plan.

Contractors who help run Remotion count toward the 4-person line, but a client who only receives a finished video file does not, so a 3-person studio rendering for many clients can stay on the Free License. Creators seats are for people who write Remotion code, including with Claude Code or Cursor; our list of Remotion tools for coding agents covers that setup.

Remotion Lambda cost per render

Remotion Lambda is Remotion's own way to run programmatic video at scale: it splits each render across many AWS Lambda functions at once. The license doesn't cover that compute; AWS bills it to your account. Remotion publishes these cost examples, measured at 2,048 MB of memory and 10 GB of disk in us-east-1 on Remotion 4.0.381.

RenderFramesWarm LambdaCold Lambda
Hello World templateNot stated$0.001$0.001
1-minute video from the same S3 bucket1,440$0.017$0.021
10-second 4K videoNot stated$0.013$0.014
10-minute HD video14,315$0.103$0.108

Those figures are Lambda compute only, which Remotion calls "usually the majority of the cost." Its estimatePrice() function sizes your own renders from region, memory, duration, disk and Lambda count, but it leaves out "S3 and Remotion licensing fees." If you would rather not run AWS at all, these ways to run Remotion without self-hosting move the render step elsewhere.

Underneath, AWS charges $0.0000166667 per GB-second on x86 and $0.0000133334 on Arm in us-east-1, plus $0.20 per million requests. The Lambda free tier covers 400,000 GB-seconds a month, so at $0.017 a render it absorbs roughly 390 one-minute renders, if nothing else in the account uses it. It is the same pay-for-what-runs model as usage-based AI API pricing.

The rest of the AWS bill: S3, data transfer and logs

Remotion Lambda writes each finished video to an S3 bucket, and your users usually download it from there. These are the us-east-1 list prices from AWS's price list on 21 October 2026.

AWS linePrice
S3 Standard storage$0.023 per GB a month (first 50 TB)
S3 PUT and LIST requests$0.005 per 1,000
S3 GET requests$0.004 per 10,000
Data transfer out to the internetFirst 100 GB a month free, then $0.09 per GB
CloudWatch LogsBilled per GB; Remotion Lambda logs by default

File size drives both storage and transfer. A 1-minute 1080p MP4 at about 8 Mbps is around 60 MB, so 1,000 of them take about 60 GB: $1.38 to keep for a month, and serving each once stays inside the free 100 GB. At 20,000 videos that becomes 1,200 GB, or $27.60 to store and $99 to serve once. If your renders feed a bulk video ad API workflow, old variants pile up fast, so set an S3 lifecycle rule.

Remotion pricing in one monthly number

Here is the formula. The three teams below assume 1-minute 1080p videos at Remotion's warm cost of $0.017, 60 MB per file kept for a month and downloaded once, before the Lambda free tier.

Monthly cost = license
+ renders x Lambda cost per render
             + GB stored x $0.023
             + (GB served - 100) x $0.09

LicenseFree LicenseCreators, 4 seatsAutomators
Renders a month1,00030020,000
License fee$0$100$200
Lambda$17.00$5.10$340.00
S3 storage$1.38$0.41$27.60
Data transfer$0$0$99.00
Monthly total$18.38$105.51$666.60

For the small studio, AWS is the whole bill. For the video product, the license is only 30% of the total: Lambda is the biggest line, and data transfer alone costs about as much as the license minimum. If all its renders ran cold at $0.021, Lambda would be $420 and the total $746.60.

At 50,000 renders a month the Automators fee reaches $500, the starting price of Remotion's Enterprise tier, so that is the point to ask for custom terms. If the AWS half is what you want gone, a Remotion alternative with no render servers to run turns a license plus an AWS bill into one usage bill.

What moves the number

  • Video length. A 10-minute HD video costs about six times a 1-minute one: $0.103 against $0.017.
  • Resolution. 10 seconds of 4K costs $0.013, nearly as much as the full 1-minute example.
  • Video inside video. Embedding footage in a composition "increases the cost significantly," per Remotion.
  • Memory and cold starts. Lambda bills by the GB-second, and a cold 1-minute render costs $0.004 more than a warm one.
  • Concurrency. AWS allows 1,000 concurrent executions per region by default, and it can be lower on new accounts. Hitting it slows big batches without changing the price.

Rendering on your own server swaps the AWS lines for the cost of the machine, but the license fee stays, because Remotion's render definition doesn't depend on where the render runs. For how Remotion compares with an HTML-based framework, see HyperFrames vs Remotion.

Which Remotion plan fits

  • You're 3 people or fewer: the Free License. Budget only for AWS.
  • Your product renders for users: Automators. Budget $0.027 to $0.031 per 1-minute video for license plus Lambda, then add storage and transfer.
  • Your staff write videos in code: one Creators seat per person writing Remotion code.
  • Your license spend nears $500 a month: ask Remotion about Enterprise.
  • You haven't built anything yet: start from Remotion templates and price renders once you know your video length.

Try it yourself: Open the Creative Brief to Composed Video workflow in Wireflow. The scene planner, four image nodes, music node and Video Editor node are pre-configured, so one brief becomes a captioned cut with no Lambda functions or S3 buckets to manage.

FAQ

How much does Remotion cost?

Remotion is free for individuals, non-profits and companies of up to 3 people. Larger companies pay $0.01 per render with a $100 monthly minimum, $25 a month per seat, or from $500 a month for Enterprise. AWS bills rendering separately.

Is Remotion free for commercial use?

Yes, if your organization has 3 people or fewer, or is a non-profit. The Free License includes all features and unlimited commercial use.

What counts as a render in Remotion's license?

One successful video, audio file, GIF, still image or PDF. Previews in Remotion Studio and the Remotion Player don't count.

How much does Remotion Lambda cost per render?

In Remotion's us-east-1 examples at 2,048 MB: about $0.001 for the Hello World template, $0.017 to $0.021 for a 1-minute video, and $0.103 to $0.108 for a 10-minute HD video. S3, data transfer and logs are extra.

Does the Remotion license include AWS costs?

No. Remotion says companies of 4 or more need a Company License "in addition to the AWS cost."

Can I combine Automators and Creators?

Yes, with a combined minimum spend of $100 a month. Developers who only build automations don't need a Creators seat.

What if Remotion costs more than I expected?

Price the AWS half first, since it is usually the larger line at volume. Then compare hosted options in our list of Remotion alternatives.

Conclusion

Remotion's license is the small, predictable part of the bill: $0 for teams of 3 or fewer, then $0.01 a render or $25 a seat. The AWS half grows with every minute you render and every file you serve, so price both before you commit. If you would rather skip AWS, Wireflow runs the render step on hosted compute: its plans start at $36 a month for 2,660 credits, and Video Editor exports use no credits, with render usage limits on every plan.
