JSON2Video pricing starts at $199.50 a year for the Hobby plan or $49.95 a month for Professional, and one credit buys one second of video at any resolution. This guide lists every plan on JSON2Video's pricing page as checked on 23 October 2026, converts credits into a cost per finished minute, and compares that rate with two rival render APIs. It also covers where Wireflow fits when the footage has to be generated before it is rendered.

The short version: JSON2Video is one of the easiest video APIs to budget, because the bill depends only on how many seconds you render. The catches are monthly credit expiry, a 30-minute cap per video and 7-day file hosting. Teams that also have to create the clips often compare it with a JSON2Video alternative on a workflow canvas, where making the footage and assembling the cut run in one pipeline.

JSON2Video pricing at a glance

JSON2Video is a video editing API: you describe a movie as JSON, with scenes, text, images, voiceovers and subtitles, and the API renders it. Credits come as monthly subscriptions that refill a pool or as one-time packs that never expire. Our roundup of JSON2Video alternatives covers tools that work the same way.

JSON2Video pricing page showing the Hobby, Professional and Startup subscription plans

Three details are easy to miss. Hobby is sold only yearly, so $16.63 is the monthly share of one $199.50 payment. Professional and Startup show no yearly discount. And every price excludes tax, which is added at checkout, worth remembering when you compare usage-based AI API pricing across vendors.

If you saw a $19.95 starting price on a software directory, that is an older price list. SaaSworthy, for example, lists tiers from $19.95 to $199.95 and notes that its pricing details were last updated on 26 September 2023. Use the plans above when you shortlist video creation and editing APIs.

How JSON2Video credits are calculated

The rule is one credit per second of output, at any resolution from SD to 4K, and failed renders are not billed. A 30-second video costs 30 credits at 720p, 1080p or 4K. That flat rate is the biggest difference from Creatomate, whose pixel-based credits make a 4K minute at 30 fps cost four times as much as a 1080p minute.

VideoCreditsCost on ProfessionalCost on Startup
15-second vertical clip15$0.06$0.05
30-second ad at 1080p30$0.12$0.10
60-second explainer at 4K60$0.25$0.20
5-minute tutorial300$1.25$1.00
30-minute webinar cut, the maximum1,800$7.49$6.00

Voiceovers and subtitles currently cost nothing extra. The credit consumption page lists Microsoft Azure voices, four ElevenLabs models and Whisper subtitles at 0 credits per minute, and notes this may change as new models ship. With your own ElevenLabs key, ElevenLabs bills you for the voice and JSON2Video charges only the render, a useful baseline when you price AI voiceover generation on its own.

Cost per finished minute on every plan

The pricing page states minutes per plan but never a rate per minute. The table divides each price by the minutes it buys, the number that matters when you compare video assembly APIs on cost.

PlanPriceMinutesPer minutePer 1,000 creditsPer 30-second clip
Hobby, yearly$16.63 a month50$0.33$5.54$0.17
Professional$49.95 a month200$0.25$4.16$0.12
Startup$99.95 a month500$0.20$3.33$0.10
Pack of 7,200 credits$49.95 once120$0.42$6.94$0.21
Pack of 15,600 credits$99.95 once260$0.38$6.41$0.19

Three patterns stand out:

  • Startup has the lowest rate, 20% below Professional and about 40% below Hobby.
  • Packs cost more per minute but never expire. The larger pack is about 54% dearer per minute than Professional.
  • Hobby is the cheapest way in, not the cheapest rate. $199.50 buys 600 minutes a year, but only 50 in any one month.

You can hold a subscription and a pack at once. Subscription credits are spent first, earliest-expiring first, and prepaid credits only after that, so a pack works as a buffer for a heavy month instead of a reason to upgrade. That suits batch AI generation jobs that spike around launches.

Rules that change the bill

Subscription credits expire at the end of each monthly period and never roll over, including on the yearly Hobby plan, whose credits arrive month by month. There is no overage rate. When the balance runs out, new renders are refused, and an account at zero is paused until you add credits. Teams running n8n video editing workflows should treat those errors as alerts, since the docs say a retry fails the same way.

Each video is capped at 60 seconds on the free plan and 30 minutes on every paid plan and pack, so paid plans differ only in credits. A longer movie is refused before it renders and costs nothing. There is no throughput tier to buy, though JSON2Video asks to be warned before an unusually large burst. That matters for teams pushing hundreds of variants a day through a bulk video ad API, where one campaign can drain a monthly pool in days.

Files do not stay long. Rendered videos are deleted 7 days after the render on every plan, cached generated assets after about 3 days, and Media library files are kept only while the account holds credits. If the balance sits at zero for 30 days, the Media library and rendered videos are removed for good. Copy each render to your own storage straight away, a step to build into any Make.com video automation.

The billing terms are short but strict:

  • Refunds. The pricing page allows one only on the first payment, within 24 hours and with under 10% of the credits used, while the credits FAQ in the docs simply says no.
  • Cancelling. It takes effect at the end of the period, and cancelling Hobby does not refund the months left.
  • Checkout email. Buying with an email that differs from your login creates a new account that receives the credits.

JSON2Video vs Shotstack and Creatomate

Competitor pricing pages rarely state a rate per minute, so the table converts each plan to the cost of one finished minute at 1080p and 30 fps on monthly billing. Shotstack charges a flat rate per minute, and Creatomate charges credits that scale with pixels, frame rate and length. Prices are from each pricing page on 23 October 2026, and our Shotstack pricing breakdown covers its plans in more depth.

Brass compass resting on a folded map, representing a side-by-side look at video API prices

At 1080p, Shotstack costs less per minute at every comparable price: $99 buys 750 minutes on Shotstack Pro against 500 minutes for $99.95 on JSON2Video Startup, and Shotstack minutes roll over. JSON2Video beats Creatomate at every comparable price, and its Professional plan matches the Beyond 50K rate for $49.95 instead of $329. At 4K, Creatomate's Growth 10K rate rises to $1.93 a minute, while Shotstack bills 4K at its flat rate from the $99 Pro plan up. Our Creatomate vs Shotstack comparison covers those two head to head.

Per-minute cost is not the whole picture. JSON2Video includes voiceovers and subtitles at no extra credits today, while Shotstack bills AI voice per model, about 6 cents per 1,000 characters with ElevenLabs. If generation is part of the job, compare all three against a video generation API, because none of these render bills include the clips themselves.

What JSON2Video costs at real volumes

The scenarios below use list prices and assume each video renders once, which is optimistic for teams testing video ad variants.

ScenarioCredits a monthCheapest fitMonthly costCost per video
100 Shorts, 30 seconds each3,000Hobby, yearly$16.63$0.17
20 explainers, 5 minutes each6,000Professional$49.95$2.50
300 product videos, 45 seconds each13,500Startup, or Professional plus a pack$99.95$0.33
1,000 personalized clips, 20 seconds each20,000Startup$99.95$0.10
2,000 listing videos, 15 seconds each30,000Startup$99.95$0.05

The third row shows the gap between plans. 13,500 credits is only 1,500 over Professional, but Startup costs twice as much. Buying the 7,200-credit pack once costs the same extra $49.95, and the 5,700 credits left over never expire, covering that overflow for three more months. Rerenders multiply every figure, so teams that automate UGC video creation should budget for a second pass.

What the JSON2Video bill does not cover

JSON2Video's credits pay for rendering. Other costs often decide the real budget:

  • AI footage. JSON2Video says it does not natively generate AI images, AI video, avatars or face swaps, so generated clips come from another service with its own bill. That is why teams building an AI video pipeline price generation and assembly together.
  • Storage. Renders are deleted after 7 days, so long-term hosting sits on your own cloud bill.
  • Template work. Each format still needs its JSON written and maintained, which no credit table shows.

Is JSON2Video worth the price?

JSON2Video is good value for a steady volume of short and medium videos, especially at 4K or with narration, because resolution and voices add nothing. Prepaid packs suit irregular work, and a managed API avoids running the servers behind Remotion's Lambda rendering costs.

The case weakens at high 1080p volume, where Shotstack's flat minutes cost less and roll over, and for videos longer than 30 minutes or files you need hosted beyond a week. When most of the spend goes on making the clips, weigh the render bill against image-to-video API costs first.

The bottom line

Budget $49.95 a month for up to 200 minutes, move to Startup once you regularly pass 12,000 credits, and keep a prepaid pack for spikes instead of upgrading for one heavy month. Download every render within 7 days. If the footage still has to be made, compare the render bill with per-run workflow pricing that covers both steps.

Try it yourself: Build this workflow in Wireflow, the nodes are pre-configured to turn a text brief into a scene image, animate it, and assemble the cut in the Video Editor, so you can price the footage and the render side by side.

FAQ

How much does JSON2Video cost per month?

Professional costs $49.95 a month for 12,000 credits (200 minutes) and Startup costs $99.95 a month for 30,000 credits (500 minutes). Hobby is sold yearly at $199.50, about $16.63 a month for 3,000 credits. Prices exclude tax.

Does JSON2Video have a free plan?

Yes. New accounts get 600 credits once, enough for 10 minutes of video, with no credit card. Free renders carry a watermark, are capped at 60 seconds and 1080p, and are for personal, educational or evaluation use only.

How many credits does a JSON2Video video use?

One credit per second of output at any resolution, 4K included. A 30-second video uses 30 credits and a 5-minute video uses 300. Failed renders are not billed.

Do JSON2Video credits roll over?

Subscription credits expire at the end of each monthly period, including on the yearly Hobby plan. Prepaid pack credits never expire, and subscription credits are always used first.

What happens if I run out of JSON2Video credits?

New renders are refused until you add credits. You can buy a prepaid pack to top up or upgrade from the dashboard. There is no overage rate.

Are voiceovers and subtitles included in JSON2Video plans?

Yes, for now. Azure and ElevenLabs voices and Whisper subtitles cost 0 credits per minute on JSON2Video's own keys, and the docs note this may change. With your own ElevenLabs key, ElevenLabs bills you for the voice.

Is JSON2Video cheaper than Shotstack?

Not per minute on comparable plans. Shotstack's monthly plans cost $0.05 to $0.16 a minute against $0.20 to $0.33 on JSON2Video, and Shotstack minutes roll over for 3 months. JSON2Video includes voiceovers at no extra credits, while Shotstack charges AI voice per model.
